Adonis Character Design

Early concepts, character development, and weapon design for Adonis from PermaDeath: A Video game Opera. It is of note to mention that Adonis was intended to be a genderfluid character.

From Cerise Jacobs, the librettist:
"He's not related to the 'sun' twins, but is bright and beautiful, hence, making up the third in the sun team. He's vain, perhaps a little effeminate, a skillful manipulator and very wanton. He enjoys playing Apollo off against Aphrodite. He's a countertenor, which is a very very high tenor (for want of a better description.)"

Adonis's body, save for his human heart held in a glass cage, is entirely artificial. This reflects a desire to achieve ultimate beauty through technology.

More an accessory than an integral part of his silhouette, Adonis's two-faced whips collapse into daggers and fit neatly inside sheaths attached to his legs.

Adonis's free-floating arms allow them to pivot 360 degrees around his body. He moves delicately, but dangerously, and each segment of his whip can send out a small energy projectile.

Adonis was revised up until the very last week of development. Discussion of his appearance tied into discussion of gender expression, and more traditionally feminine designs ended up being discarded.
